The Nashville Food Project was born from the idea that ALL people should have access to the food they want and need. We know that one in six people in Nashville lacks access to enough food to sustain a healthy lifestyle. But we also know that more than 40% of all the food in our city goes to waste. Solutions to hunger take much more than simple handouts. Poverty, unemployment, low wages and escalating housing costs all contribute to the challenges that the most vulnerable residents of our city face. We believe food can be a powerful tool to foster health, belonging and justice in our community.
Larkspur Conservation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the stewardship of our natural environment through earth-friendly natural burial practices. Our nature preserves are protected by a conservation overlay which allows for natural burial to occur on a portion of the land while fostering and restoring the local ecosystem. This historic practice of natural burial eliminates the use of embalming chemicals, plastics, metals and concrete. With each burial an investment is made to our natural home, creating a living memorial to be enjoyed by everyone, forever.
The Regenerative Outcomes Foundation was established by Doug Oliver, a Nashville, TN, resident who was legally blind from macular degeneration, and who, through adult stem-cell treatment, had his sight restored. The foundation’s primary objective is to help improve access to cutting-edge “regenerative medicine” procedures and treatments by working both with patients seeking safe and effective help and the innovative providers and companies able to meet their medical needs.
American Prophet: Frederick Douglass in His Own Words is a concert theatrical adaptation based on the inspirational life of the slave turned-statesmen, the great American abolitionist and social reformer, Frederick Douglass. The musical, penned by legendary songwriter Marcus Hummon, details the early years as a slave and its relationship to Frederick Douglass’s later vision. Says Hummon, "People sometimes describe the quintessential American story as rags to riches — the story of a self-made man. With Frederick Douglass we have a deeper American success story; from slave to a president's confidante, a successful author, a celebrated orator, a statesman and social reformer. In the tradition of prophets who speak truth that transcends the time they live in, Frederick has a lot to say to us today."
